Cicogna, Giovanni Matteo. Il primo libro del Trattato Militare di Giovan Mattheo Cicogna Veronese. Nel quale si contengono varie regole, & diversi modi, per fare con l'ordinanza Battaglie nuove di fanteria. Con due tariffe, l'una delle ordinanze, & l'altra delle battaglie quadre perfette per ogni faccia: & molti altri ricordi utilissimi ad ogni buon soldato. 4to (204x147 mm); XVIII century binding in quarter vellum, marbled paper boards (light trace of use) and white end-leaves; [6], 65, [1] leaves (last page blank); errors in foliation: leaves number 63-64 numbered 65-66, and then continuing with number 65; text in Italian; woodcut device at title-page (with two warriors, named: Gio. Matteo [the Author] and Camillo [the Publisher]); xylographic coat of arms of the dedicatee Ottavio Farnese on leaf *2r; many xylographic illustrations representing military formations and schemes; woodcut historiated head-letters.
Rare edition of this work of military strategy, including the array of infantry.
Giovanni Matteo Cicogna (16th century), was an Italian scholar, a historiographer and a military from Verona.
