Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A miniature bronze cast figurine of Pan, the beloved half man half goat horned god known for his hunting skills. Although missing whatever was held in his hands, one might imagine his throwing stick of lagobolon used for hunting rabbits or perhaps a money bag, as he was the son of the god Hermes. Small but mighty, this statuette is quite detailed given its size. Note Pan's expressive visage with pointed ears and hairy beard, a perky tail and hairy legs. He presents a highly animated pose with a finely delineated athletic physique. The bronze is nicely preserved with a lovely deep green patina. Lucite cube stand. Size: figure itself measures 2" H (5.1 cm); 3" (7.6 cm) on stand.
