Description: Circa 1870 Printed Advertisement Broadside for a Fundraiser promoting the construction of the Washington Monument through U.S. Postmaster sales of engraving prints. Text partly reads; "The Great National Enterprise! Suggested as a means through which to obtain contributions to The Washington Monument! Five hundred thousand magnificent steel plate engravings of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, surrounded with life like portrait of all the Presidents and bearing upon its face an engraving of the Tomb of Washington at Mt. Vernon...Address your order for engravings with the money enclosed to Samuel Ridenour, Postmaster, Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland."
