Description
Continental (likely French), 20th century. A lidded celadon porcelain cache pot or centerpiece bowl with ormolu accents, with attractive craquelure throughout, lid with ormolu pomegranate and splayed leaf finial, body with laurel and berry swags accented by ribbon bows, body with two architectural handles of pilaster form, each pilaster handle topped with scrolled acanthus and centered by upswept acanthus at base, circular foot with pierced diaper patterning with four pilaster form accents, apparently unmarked. Approximate height 12", diameter of mouth 8.75".
Condition
Lid with spider webbing/ fracturing interior to exterior. Lid with small glaze pops, not distracting. Interior of lid with discoloration around rim likely from contact with ormolu banding of pot rim. Interior of bowl with two fractures interior to exterior; one likely occurring from the pressure at ribbon-tied mount, the other running from the rim down (see image #9). Ormolu exhibits some oxidation and patination commensurate with age and handling.
