This 50 mm Leica lens with manual focus is supplied with a front and a rear cap in a Leica black leather keeper.



Condition:

The lens carries the serial number ‘2518781’. It is marked ‘Leitz Wetzlar Germany’ and ‘Lens made in Germany’ on the side. It is in very good condition. The lenses show no visible scratches, otherwise with only minimal signs of use. The aperture runs smoothly.



Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH / Leica Camera AG

The history of the famous Leica products dates back to 1849, when Carl Kellner founded the ‘Optical Institute’ in Wetzlar. This company emerged into the ‘Ernst Leitz Werke’ in 1869, and later into the Ernst Leitz GmbH under the leadership of Ernst Leitz. In the beginning, the factory only produced microscopes; the film cameras were added around 1900. In 1913, the first 35 mm camera of the world was created by Oskar Barnack, the so called ‘Ur-Leica’. Soon, the camera was produced in a row and become an unexpected success. After World War Second, the company was renamed into Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH. In 1986, the company emerged into the three independent companies Leica Camera AG, Leica Microsystems GmbH and Leica Geosystems AG. The Leica Camera AG moved from Wetzar to Solms. Currently, the company is planning to move into its new central site in the Leitz Park in Wetzlar. (amb)
