Description
An exceptional pair of heavily carved 19th century Chinese chairs with oval padded back surrounded by thick molded frame flanked by scrolling brackets and boldly surmounted by an impressive openwork crest intricately carved with scrolling vines and tendrils and palm fronds centering a pierced urn-form comport of fruit in a domed out highly pronounced three-dimensional urn of openwork carving and billowing dimension; all over a thickly padded compass seat having a very well carved openwork skirt centering a lotus flower; the whole raised on cabriole legs each headed by a handlebar mustachioed gentleman, the leg terminating in thick whorled feet; upholstered in black and white zebra striped cotton fabric. Measures 48 x 25 x 29 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Condition
Very good condition, noting various separations and minor repairs commensurate with age and use. There are no major losses, repairs, replacements or issues. Minor chips to some fronds at top of each, chipping from the frame of one oval back, the seats and backs drop in and come loose easily.
