Description
Rome, ca. 0 to 400 CE. This is a redware pottery fragment that would have been the pouring spout on a vessel; it is in the shape of a lion's head, complete with ears, nose, and eyes; the mouth is a small open hole to form the spout. This is a charming rendition showing the artwork of everyday things in Roman life, as well as reminding us of their fondness for lions. Size: 3.6" W x 2.4" H (9.1 cm x 6.1 cm).
