‘I work to create an integrity and quality in my pieces that will allow them to live and age and grow more beautiful overtime.’ This is how Bangkok based designer Alexander Lamont describes his work that has recently been awarded by UNESCO with the ‘Award of Excellence in Handcrafts’. The use of precious materials, such as bronze, shagreen, precious woods, parchment, rock crystals or gold leaf is highly important for Lamont’s exclusive designer pieces. Moreover, Lamont wants them to change over time. Offered candle stick is an example of this high-quality workmanship and the creative aging-process that itself still designs the object over the years.



Condition:

The candle stick is in a very good condition. The surface bears scattered, tiny bumps and scratches. The height is 35.5 cm.



Alexander Lamont

The designer Alexander Lamont grew up in an environment, which was to forever shape him: when he was four years old, his father opened a family business in a small English village, where he sold folk art, antiques and craftworks from all around the world. Those strange and beautiful materials from Asia, Africa, and Latin-America inspired Alexander already as a child. Moreover, a trip to Thailand spurred on his imagination and in 2000 he returned to build up his own company. Lamont closely works with the locals, who teach him the traditional handicraft techniques. Through these relationships, the high-quality and authentic art works are being developed, which enjoy huge popularity worldwide. (nlu)
