First Edition of BOTH VOLUMES. 9 3/4" H X 12 3/4" W (Folio). Period custom marbled boards and black leather quarter binding. Four pronounced hubs to spine with gold title work and previous owner name "E.D. Hicks" stamped in gold gilt at the foot of the spine. Signed by Edward Hicks "E.D. Hicks" on the title-page of the first volume. Profusely illustrated. Explores the mounds, customs, weaponry and discoveries made of the aborigines of Tennessee. 2nd item: CLAYTON, Prof. W.W. History of Davidson County, Tennessee, with Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of its Prominent Men and Pioneers. Philadelphia: J.W. Lewis & Co, 1880. 9 1/4" H X 12" W (Quarto). 499 Pages. Original First Edition copy of this early, important book on the settlement of Nashville and surrounding areas. In the original stamped cloth binding that retains original leather gold tooled spine. Previous owner signature "Willoughby S. Williams, Columbia, TN" on the inside front board. A lower grade specimen with frayed edges and tearing to cloth on rear board. 3rd item: HAWKINS, Charles W.; PITTS, William A.; HAND, Irving; HOWE, Harry A.; HERBERT, R.D.; WEST, Ben; et all. Plan of Metropolitan Government for Nashville and Davidson County. Nashville: Nashville and Davidson County Planning Commissions - Advance Planning & Research Division. 9" H X 11" W (Imperial Octavo). 69 Pages + Appendix (all four original foldouts contained). First Edition copy in the original comb binding as issued. An interesting 1950's look at the issues facing a growing Nashville machine and how to solve the problems such as a lack of cohesion among the surrounding cities and suburbs (Belle Meade, Berry Hill, Oak Hill etc.) Very Good condition overall. Note: Mrs. Green's father, Edward Dickson Hicks IV, served on the Metro Charter Commission that merged Nashville with Davidson County to form Nashville's Metropolitan Government. Condition
1st item: Overall good condition. Occasional foxing and a few dog-eared corners. Scuffing and wear to covers, spine and tips. 2nd item: Text block has separated from binding and book suffers from foxing and minor paper loss. 3rd item: Slight scuffing to original cardstock wraps.
