Description
Antique Chinese Silk with Golden Thread Kesi (K'o-ssu) Tapestry Panel, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th Century. Hand embroidered kesi silk panel with background woven in gold thread, depicting horse mounted warriors. In gilt wood faux bamboo frame with blue raw silk mat. Measures in the frame 37.50x10x.50". Wt. 3 pds. PROVENANCE: The estate of a Litchfield Connecticut Antique and Fine Art Dealer. Panel Unlike continuous weft brocade, in k'o-ssu each color area was woven from a separate bobbin, making the style both technically demanding and very time-consuming.
