Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Guangala / La Tolita, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. An extremely rare piece, this pottery maskette presents an expressive visage with deeply set openwork eyes, and overhanging forehead, full cheeks, and an open grimacing mouth with jagged teeth. Nicely modeled with deeply saturated red pigment remaining. Custom, museum-quality stand. Perforated at top and sides for suspension. Size: mask itself measures 5.25" W x 5.5" H (13.3 cm x 14 cm); 7.75" H (19.7 cm) on stand
