Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco, ca. 200 BCE to 100 CE. A seated pottery figure in the Chinesco style - some of the most desirable west Mexican pottery available, dubbed Chinesco by collectors for its Asian facial features. She presents a typical angular face with a prominent nose and perhaps nose ring, and sits upon outspread legs, shown with hands to subtly distended belly - possible indication of pregnancy. Voluptuous hips also indicative of fertility. The surface boasts a beautiful polychrome finish of red and black details upon a white ground. Size: 3.625" W x 4.5" H (9.2 cm x 11.4 cm)
