Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Yucatan Peninsula, perhaps Jaina Island, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A very fine pottery ceremonial rattle in the form of a standing lord. Standing in a very dignified manner he is wearing a cape over his shoulders, incised sash across his chest, large necklace with central pectoral, and elaborate headdress. Much nicer than one normally finds! Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm)
Provenance: Ex - J. Schaumberg collection, ex. Dr. Murray collection, acquired before 1944.
