Description
This figural piece is more statuesque than most others, with the napkin ring less incorporated into the design than added to it as an off-center functional piece. The focus of the silver plated item is the cherub looming over the ring on a raised stand.

History: The art of ornate napkin rings in mediums such as silver, silver plate, wood, and bone is largely an American tradition. The idea was that of moving away from the simplicity of typical napkin rings that served their purpose as markers for which napkins were to be washed and instead made the rings part of a larger work of art. They became a centerpiece unto themselves during the early 20th Century after their development in France during the 1800s.
