ITALIAN FASCIST POLITICAL LEADER'S CAP
Rare and most attractive early Italian upper-level fascist political leader's cap. This ornate black wool cap, about a size 60, displays a fabulous 3 1/2" wide silver and gold bullion left-facing eagle with gold sequins also representing wing feathers. The eagle clutches intricately-woven silver fasces in its talons. Two woven red chevrons are sewn to the left side of the cap indicating rank, and they appears just above another beautifully-constructed gold and silver wire fasces symbol. A red braided cord with two knots runs from the top of the cap down the right side and up again, and an ornate braided black tassel is attached to the cord at top. The cap is lined in black satin and bears the gold markings of a Rome hatmaker. Fine leather sweatband present but detached from cap. Fine condition.
