ALLACH MUNICH "ATHENA" FIGURE
Extremely rare Allach porcelain figure of the Greek goddess Athena standing full-length and dressed in a white chiton with her warrior's helmet atop her head. She holds an upright Doric colum pillar symbolizing civilization and its culure in her left hand, and a small olive branch symbolizing peace in her right hand. The figure stands upon a white cubic base which bears the Munich coat-of-arms in relief. The reverse of the base bears the inscription in relief: "TAG DER DEUTSCHEN KUNST 1938". This piece was designed by the noted Prof. Theodor Karner who directed production at Allach, and his name is embossed on the underside along with the Allach stylized SS runes and "Allach." It is believed that only 600 of these pieces were ever manufactured. Fine condition, completely intact with every single detail present. The porcelain factory Porzellan Manufaktur Allach was established as a private concern in 1935. In 1936 the factory was acquired by Heinrich Himmler to produce works of art that would represent, in Himmler's eyes, true Germanic culture. Production was based at Allach, the largest subcamp of Dachau, and it used slave labor in the production of these pieces. Comb on top of helmet fractured but professionally repaired.
