Description
David Hastings (English (Alnwick), active 1758-1795), circa 1765. A fine George II green and gilt chinoiserie longcase or tallcase clock, the domed hood flanked with turned urn finials over a conforming glazed door enclosing the brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and square date aperture with Roman and Arabic numerals within "Four Seasons" corner spandrels headed and centered with roundel engraved with "D. Hastings/ALNWICK" and dolphin masks, flanked to the exterior by column pilasters, the sides with rectangular glazed panels, above a long trunk with arched door intricately painted with low relief figural and landscape scenes and designs, the whole raised on a rectangular molded edge plinth also decorated. Approximate height 89", width 19.5", depth 9.5". Provenance: From the Collection of Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, Atlanta, Georgia.
