Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Coast, Chancay, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A carved wooden standing male figure made from one piece with a typical mummy bundle face painted red with eyes comprised of black irises on white diamond-shaped sclera, with a black vertical stripe painted from nose to chin over his incised smile, an abstract, angular body with arms incised as if held over chest and a petite penis between his straight legs. Bits of white textile remain on the back of the figure. The overall form of the head and body is characteristically abstract and pleasingly minimalist. Size: 14.5" H (36.8 cm)
