Description
Latin America, Mexico, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden santo, probably depicting Saint Pachomius the Great, his visage with finely delineated, naturalistic features and a full beard and mustache, wearing a monk's habit and gesturing with his left hand placed over his heart. Saint Pachomius the Great, together with Saints Anthony the Great and Euthymius the Great, was a founder of cenobitic monastic life in Egypt. A relatively rare example. Size: 9.25" H (23.5 cm)
