Latin America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved and finely painted wooden saint holding a holy book or gospel in his left hand, wearing a white alb (the ample liturgical vestment that flows down to his ankles) and a hooded, red and blue cape. His visage is beautifully delineated with delicate features presenting a tranquil countenance, topped by a unique hair style. Size: 4.75" W x 11.25" H (12.1 cm x 28.6 cm)
