Description
American Rococo Rosewood Full Tester Bed, mid 19th c., of the type crafted for the antebellum New Orleans market, the projecting ogee cornice on tapered cluster column posts supporting a paneled headboard with a scroll and shell carved crest rail, the posts joined by serpentine rails with applied carving, to a like footboard, H.- 114 in., Int. W.- 58 in., Int. D.- 70 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition commensurate with age and use. Some damage to surface at leg bases. Small gouges on left side rail. Scrapes and scuffs to areas of use. Minimal small gouges to headboard but otherwise in handsome shape with nice carving. Some surface clouding throughout. Canopy bears evidence of use and replacement. Small area of veneer loss to finished canopy top on left rear corner. A nice example.
