Description
A nice Byzantine opaque black glass flask, Eastern Mediterranean, c. 9th - 11th Century AD, the elongated hexagonal body, flattened base and funnel-shaped mouth, decorated with whitish marvered trailing in festoons. H: 2 7/8 in (7.3 cm). Light surface deposits and a nice example of the type. Cf. Constable-Maxwell, p. 194, nos. 341-2 for near identical examples. Ex Owen Auctions (June 1994) lot 172.
