Description
The tradition of Globe de Mariee pieces began in France during the 1800?s. It was a display for married couples, to preserve their wedding souvenirs, as well as tell the story of their life together. Placed prominently in the formal dining room, it held the bride?s crown made from fresh or wax blossoms. The pair also chose items for their personalized display such as hand-painted mirrors, porcelain pieces, and ormolu gold-plated novelty figurines. The number of small diamond-shaped mirrors represented the number of children the couple hoped for. Interestingly, no two Globe de Mariee's are the same. The embellishment was individually selected by the bride according to her sentiments regarding the language of flowers; they were not mass produced. This particular Globe De Mariee is very large, standing with globe, just over 22" in height and 14.5" wide, approx. Condition: Excellent
