Meiji period or earlier (19th century or earlier), the black lacquer shrine with hinged double-doors enclosing a gilt interior, fitted with carved and polychromed figures of the Buddha and two attendants, the Buddha raised on a double-lotus base, the attendants atop a naturalistic rocky base with inset glass ''jewels'', raised overall on a tiered relief-carved plinth, 16.125'' H x 11.75'' W x 6.875'' D, est: $1500/2500

Condition
Overall good condition, with general scattered scratches and scuffs to exterior and minor wear and darkening to interior polychromed elements commensurate with age. Shrinkage cracks to base beneath one attendant's feet, with an apparent repair to joint with figure and figure's foot. An approximately .125''-wide nick to painted finish of base.
