Description
Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Floral Decoration, attributed to Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jar with open loop handles, footed base, and tooled shoulder, decorated on both sides with impressed and cobalt-highlighted decoration in the form of daisy blossoms interspersed with swags. An additional smaller, impressed and cobalt-highlighted daisy motif appears under each handle. This jar is the first Crolius example we have seen with such profuse employment of his classic stamped daisy motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Tight cracks throughout body. Tiny nicks to rim. Two tiny nicks to base.
