Description
Carved Iris glaze vase decorated with six angels, one playing the harp, four seemingly reaching for stars, the work of Harriet Wilcox in 1900. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 907 C, incised Rythm(sic) Job 38-7 and the artist's initials. Job 38-7 seems to refer to the Bible verse which reads "when the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy". The colorful iris glaze gives this piece a very ethereal quality. The angels are raised so clay would have been added to the body and then cut back. There is scattered crazing. Height is 13 3/4 inches. Visually striking.
