English Regency Silver Mounted Tortoise Shell Tea Caddy, c. 1815, the lid with an ivory handle, on ivory ball feet, the interior with two foil lined tea boxes, H.- 7 5/8 in., W.- 7 7/8 in., D.- 5 in. Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Half of the base of the knob on the lid is lacking. An approximate 4 inch vertical crack along the veneer on the right front corner. An approximate 2 cm area of uneven texture and a ¾ inch crack above. An apparent repair on the back right corner, with uneven texture and flea-size losses to the veneer. Half of the ivory trim is lacking from the bottom edge. Light wear to the feet. Three flea-size losses to the veneer on the back left corner. Moderate wear throughout the interior. Two pea-size losses and 2 cracks to the ivory trim on the interior. ½ inch apparent repair to the top of one interior lid. A nice piece.
