Japanese pair of Shibayama vases, Meiji period, each having a stick neck above a pear shaped body, the silver rim and the neck with alternating chrysanthemum and phoenix panels; the gold lacquer, mother-of-pearl, stone, and bone inlay, featuring two peach-shaped reserves on each vase, with flowers and birds in one reserve of each; the second reserve on one having an oni (devil) with a mokugyo (Buddhist temple block), the second reserve on the other with an oni with one of his arms laying on a board, all under the cherry blossoms, approx. 8"h
