Description
Late 19th century, 84 x 64 cm, West Persia, Arak region
Known as "poshti" in Persia, small rugs woven in this format were used as seat or back cushions. They often came with plainwoven backs and were padded. Poshtis were intended for use in Persia and thus originally not destined for export. The outstanding quality of this delightful small rug woven in a horizontal format is impressive – a very fine weave, a brush-like dense pile and brilliant colours. – Minimally reduced at the top and bottom, otherwise very well preserved.
