Description
Mizuno Toshikata was a Japanese printmaker born in Tokyo in 1866. When he was 13 years old, he was sent to the printmaking school of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. Later, he was instructed in traditional Japanese painting by Shibata Hoshu and Watanabe Seitei, thus becoming well-trained in all courses of Japanese art. Mizuno was active during Japan's craze for modern Western art, which was at odds with his historical style of painting.
