First Trade Edition (First Thus) with modifications detailed in the author's preface. Signature (not the author's) on the front bookend. No edge wear. Very good. Atomic Energy for Military Purposes (The Smyth Report), 1945. The Official Report on the Development of the Atomic Bomb Under the Auspices of the United States Government. By Henry De Wolf Smyth (Chairman of the Department of Physics, Princeton University & Consultant to Manhattan District, US Corps of Engineers) at the request of Maj. Gen. L. R. Groves (the Head of the Manhattan Project). The front bookend autographed in 1945 by Mr. Melvin Dubin (1923-2015) in Los Alamos, where he was the Manhattan Project engineer. In 1949 Mel Dubin became the inventor and founder of the Slant-Fin Corporation - world's largest manufacturer of baseboard heating equipment. This book was written and published before the first use of an A-bomb. A treasure for any historian or person with an interest in our nuclear heritage. This book is the final second version, due to General Groves read the first version and banned publication. It was written to establish a classification guide as to what was and was not public domain information at the time. As much of the initial work was done at colleges, there was considerable interest given to the project after the war, and this book was the official response. The estate of Melvin Dubin, Great Neck NY.
