Raphael Dubois (1888-1960) Oil on Canvas "Vue de Paris" c. 1925. A busy Paris street. Signed lower left. In gold frame, measures 21.50x26x1.50. Weight 5 pds 10 oz. PROVENANCE: From the Private Paris, France and Charleston SC Collection of J. Marterer, author of Paris 201, the Winner of the Benjamin Franklin Awards - GOLD MEDAL (Travel) and Independent Publisher Awards - SILVER MEDAL (Travel). Raphael Dubois was born in the Belgian city of Liege (Luik) in 1888. He was a painter of religious compositions, genre scenes, figures, marines, landscapes, city views, nudes and still lifes in the Post Impressionist Style. He studied at the Academy of Liege under the Impressionist painter Evariste Carpentier (1845-1922). He exhibited in 1912 at the Salon d'Automne in Paris with 'La promenade du bebe' and 'Jardin d'Eden'. For the First World War he lived in the Veldstraat 2 in Uccle (Brussels) and after the First World War he went to live in Paris. From 1930 to 1939 he lived on the Côte d'Azur in Nice (France).
