David Francis Condie (1796-1875) was a fellow of the College of Physicians and an important American physician. This work went through six editions, with the final edition appearing in 1868. "It was the most widely accepted textbook on children's diseases in the United States until it was superseded by Job Lewis Smith's in 1869 and by Meigs and Pepper's in 1870...Condie's book was the first to contain a detailed account of the symptomatology of the diseases of infancy and children."--Cone, History of American Pediatrics, pp. 81-82.
