Georg Oskar Erler (1871-1951)
Born in Dresden, Georg Erler studied at the resident school of applied arts and at the Art Academy until 1898. Study trips allowed the young artist to discover Paris, Munich and Rome. In 1902 he was one of the founding members of the Dresden artist group ‘Die Elbier’, which explored local motifs from nature and people in everyday life. In 1909 Erler was also a co-founder the ‘Künstlervereinigung Dresden‘. From 1913 to 1937 Erler was active as a professor of figurative drawing at the Dresden Arts and Crafts Academy. (cbo)
