During the late 1960s and early 1970s, while Detroit's "Big Three" and Porsche's European rivals struggled with varying degrees of success to comply with tightening U.S. emissions and safety regulations, Porsche steadily improved the 911_s performance. Visual changes for the new _G-Series_ 911 models built from August 1973 through July 1974 included bodies updated for compliance with new U.S. impact standards by Wolfgang M”bius, who masterfully created bumpers that met the new standards without ruining the 911_s looks. Strengthened floor pans, revised lighting, and a host of further detailed-oriented updates combined to make the renowned 911 even better than before. Porsche_s performance models were realigned, with the 2.7-litre Carrera replacing the 911S at the top, and the 911S (also 2.7 litres) now positioned in place of 911E. The Carrera came in two different forms, with either the 210 horsepower _MFI_ (mechanical fuel injected) 911/83 engine of the prior year_s Carrera 2.7 RS for _RoW_ (Rest of World) markets and 175 horsepower with Bosch electronic fuel injection for the U.S. Regardless of the engine dictated by market, the 911 Carrera was available with the _Burzel_ or "ducktail" rear spoiler of its predecessor, the _whale tail_ from 1975, or no spoiler for a classical _early_ look. The 2.7-litre 911 Carrera was built from August 1973 through July 1975 with 2,243 examples comprising 1,036 Coupes and 433 Targas for Porsche_s 'RoW' or Rest of World markets, plus 528 Coupes and just 246 Targas destined for U.S. sale. Numbered 9114410067, this very rare U.S.-specification 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa was completed in September 1973 in Black (A1) paint over Russet Partial Leather (26) upholstery. Factory options are abundant, including air-conditioning, tinted glass all around, front oil cooler, Blaupunkt _Bamburg_ radio with cassette player and two loudspeakers, _Carrera_ door scripts in gold, chrome-plated parts instead of matte black finish, forged light metal wheels, and a rear spoiler. The Carrera was sold new through Temple Porsche-Audi of Tampa, Florida to nearby Kane Furniture Corp. on November 9, 1973, eventually moving to Georgia and then back to Florida during the late 1990s _ all under single ownership and care from new. This highly sought after 911 remains in exceptional and incredibly original, untouched and unmodified condition _ truly a time-warp example with just 51,000 miles at the time of writing from new. After rediscovery in a Florida garage, the 911 Carrera Targa was inspected with the oil and filter changed, a new battery and air filter installed, new hood and bonnet shocks fitted, and a compression test was performed with healthy results averaging 145 psi per cylinder. The car was formerly in long term storage; therefore, in advance of driving, we recommend the tires should be changed and additional services performed as required.
