George Jones Astronomical Regulator Clock in Herter Bros Case, 19th C.
The Heter Bros Oak case houses a George Jones Astronomical regulator clock with polished gilt brass movement, deadbeat escapement, and gilt brass pulley weight with 3-jar Mercurial pendulum. The silvered dial has Arabic numerals and minute markers on the chapter ring and is inset with hour and seconds subsidiary dials.
The Herter Bros oak case having a bonnet with gabled straight pediment with opposing carved masks in profile over a fret-incised frieze, and full carved lion heads flanking the paneled sides. Fluted columns with carved mask pilasters center the dial. Burl veneers and ebonized spandrels and molding throughout. A shaped glazed aperture centers the single panel front door of the case opening to the mercury pendulum within. The clock terminates on its concave foot, and rests on its conforming lozenge-form two-door credenza base. The credenze is fitted with a single full-width drawer, and has at its sides, ornately carved columns centered between lion paw pilasters with bacchanalian capitals. (Approx. 120" tall, 65 1/2" wide, 18 1/4" deep).

Condition
Movement unsigned. Dial refinished. no staining, tarnish or scratches to the dial, movement or pendulum. Full to partial Losses to mercury in the 3-cylindar pendulum. Brass pulley incomplete, missing one dial screw, replaced bezel, bonnet door lock is missing, second weight pulley missing from the left side of the case. Damage to pediment carving at top above head of one mask. Lock at credenza base is missing. Drawer pulls replaced. Some minor losses to molding and carvings on cabinetry commensurate with age.
