This is one of several studies for The Starry Night that we have seen and/or sold. Each has been similar, the compositions having subtle differences but exhibiting sometimes quite different sky and landscape treatments. The present example features a modified village landscape under an exuberantly executed night sky.

Provenance: Originally from a prominent private collection, the Netherlands; thence to the former owner's family, circa 1960-1970.
