Description
Illuminated Arabic Manuscript Koran Book, Signed and Dated by the Calligrapher. 292 leaves (1584 pages); size: 10.8 x 14.86 cm; written surface: 6.6 x 11.6 cm; 15 lines to a page, in clear, elegant, and uniform naskhī script, in black ink, on beige paper. The text is vocalized throughout. There are two handsomely illuminated pages in the beginning. All headings of suras are written in white ink on gold background. All verses are separated by gold discs. All pages are ruled in several lines of gold and blue. The divisions of the Koran are marked by marginal medallions in gold and colors. There are tens of such medallions. The recitational marks are indicated in red throughout. The Koran was written by the master calligrapher Muhammad Ibn Muhammad ar-Rawwas in the Moth of Safar in the year 1210 corresponding to August 1795 AD. The style of calligraphy, the decorations, and the illuminations indicate that it is an Ottoman Turkish Koran. Contemporary cloth binding, with a flap in the traditional Islamic bookbinding. Edges of covers are worn. Some repairs with non-acidic transparent tape, otherwise a very good example. From The Estate Of Dr Alwan MA USA.
