Description
AMERICAN CARVED AND PAINTED FOLK ART CANE / WALKING STICK, probably maple, naturally curved handle, brass collar, shaft carved with "JEH" and foliate device in rectangular reserves. Original ebonized surface and metal ferrule. Together with a painted knotty example, possibly an Irish Blackthorn, having sterling collar bearing "WSA" initials. Two pieces total. Late 19th/early 20th century. 36" and 36 1/4" L.
Knotty example with cracks, small loss, and possible old repair to handle, lacking ferrule. Other example in very good condition with minor wear.
Provenance: Property from the private collection of Audrey "Dolly" and the late William "Billy" Journell, Leesburg, VA.
