Description
Fine and Rare Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Jug, attributed to J. Eberly & Co. or S. Bell & Sons, Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, small-sized ovoid jug with tooled spout and applied handle, the surface decorated with streaks of green and brown over a cream-colored slip ground and covered in a heavy lead glaze. A seldom-seen form in Strasburg redware, surviving in remarkable condition with vivid color and an excellent provenance. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased from the son of Alvin H. Rice, co-author of The Shenandoah Pottery. Rice catalog number in crayon on underside. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Excellent condition with very minor surface wear. H 6".
