Description
A proper matching pair of Paint-Under-Glaze Mettlach plaques; one being the portrait of a man with violin painted on a plaque within an embossed portico, columns at each side and a frieze of cherubs in relief below, music and a sword at one corner, markings on the back side include the impressed numerals 2274 11 and other faint numerals, plus DEC 5231 in brown under glaze. Plus a companion piece of matching coloration and mold but with embossed grapes hanging from the archway and differing musical allegory, the portrait of a man holding a chalice and a pipe or small baton, markings on the back side include the impressed numerals 2275 11 and two other faint numerals, plus DEC 5231 in brown under glaze. Each measures approximately 26 x 18 inches.
