Old likely 19C Chinese Qing or Japanese Meiji polychrome and gilt carved wood seated male emperor or noble figure wearing a distinctive head piece and dragon robe that should be identifiable - a statue sculpture carving of two piece construction, the head carved separately and fitted into the body, resting atop a miniature metal mounted lacquer armchair.

Both the chair and figure with 20C Japanese export labels. We suspect the statue to be older than the chair, likely 19C, while we believe the chair to be Republic era, Showa or mid 20C.

Figure 20.25 inches h. x 12.5 inches w. x 9 inches d., Chair 24.5 inches h. x 15.375 inches w., 10.25 inches d., Combined object 25 inches h. overall.

Condition: In estate discovery condition with various issues as follows: Heavy flaking of unstabilized paint with gilt and gesso losses throughout all areas of figure. Seam with paint separation visible on side of head. Surface dirt, grime, dust and wear. Chair mounts have browned varnish and heavy tarnish. Gilt and paint wear. Extreme seat grime plus moisture spots. Modern tape repair to seat. Additional misc. wear and issues to chair. As is, as found to fix.

Buyers of goods not liable for sales tax due to items being shipped out of county or state may be liable for use tax in their receiving county and/or state, that, as with international duties, are the sole responsibility of the buyer.

All buyers who have not in the absence of specific arrangements paid for both their purchases within 5 days or paid for their outside shipping within 5 days of the item being picked up by or dropped off at an outside shipper are subject to a combined uninsured storage fee of $10 + 2% of the hammer price per item per month in addition to any (re)pick-up fees (all fees as a lien where applicable) with purchase requirements and disposition of items per Terms & Conditions remaining in effect.
