TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'Carte géographique, statistique et historique de la Martinique' The map shows Saint-Pierre as the largest town, as was the case until it was substantially destroyed in the 1902 eruption of Mt Pelée, after which the capital moved to Fort-de-France (named as Fort Royal on the map). St-Pierre had previously suffered substantial hurricane-related damage in 1780.
