WILLEM VAN BEMMEL (DUTCH, 1630-1708), ATTRIBUTED, NOCTURNAL FIRE SCENE LANDSCAPE PAINTING, oil on canvas, a masterful depiction of a burning country dwelling at twilight, figures gathering in the foreground, no signature located, inscribed on canvas verso (likely after old relining) "The Effect Of Firelight / by W. Van Bemmel / Dutch". Housed in a 19th-century gilt frame. Second half 17th century. 25 5/8" x 33 1/4" sight, 31 1/2" x 39 1/4" OA.
Painting in good visual condition with scattered minor inpainting, somewhat darkened under heavy varnish, possibly concealing other restoration. Frame with wear, losses, and later surface.
