PAUL POWIS (19TH CENTURY) RUSSIAN TROIKA SCENE PAINTING, oil on canvas, a dynamic composition featuring a speeding sleigh with horseman and rider, the latter shooting a rifle at a pursuing pack of wolves in rural winter landscape, signed and dated "PAUL POWIS / 1886" lower right. Housed in a 19th-century frame with later painted surface. Circa 1886. 29 1/2" x 49 3/4" sight, 41" x 61 1/4" OA.
Very good overall condition with minor scattered craquelure and areas of discoloration, possible area of overpaint extreme upper left corner. Frame with wear and losses, later surface.
