Description
1st-2nd century AD. A bronze figurine of a lioness advancing on a curved base, the right foreleg placed on a circular shield with a facing female mask or gorgoneion, modelled in the half-round; mounted on a custom-made stand. 240 grams, 86mm (3 1/2"). Property of a London lady; by inheritance; formerly acquired by her father in Europe in the 1940s.
