Description
A nice Roman bronze figurine of Asclepius, god of medicine, 1st - 2nd Century AD, solid cast and depicted robed and standing with his snake entwined rod as the god was most commonly depicted, his gaze slightly to right. A handsome figure with nice style and detail showing the god of medicine in classic pose as was depicted on coins circulating all over the empire at the time. H: 4 in (10.2cm). Well-preserved with a mottled green-brown patina and mounted on an antique black wood base. Ex estate of Seward Kennedy, New York. Mr. Kennedy worked for decades as a lawyer for the Mobil Corporation, and acquired his collection throughout decades of travel beginning in the 1950's.
