Description
Spanish American War: "Medal Presentation Day" Flag. Interesting 12" x 21" glazed cotton flag with blue overprint reading: "Medal Presentation Day, Oneida County Soldiers (Spanish-American War) Utica, May 24, 1899." The flag has 48 stars which would normally date it to 1912 or later, but it is "right-as-rain" which leads us to believe that the additional three stars (Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona) were anticipatory in nature. We have seen other pre-1912 flags with 48 stars stars, as well, so this may have been common practice. Excellent.
