Description
An American Arts & Crafts influenced quarter-sawn oak wood box made by Architect, furniture maker and author of a book on hooked rugs, William Winthrop Kent (1860-1955) of Buffalo, New York, Cape Cod, Mass. and Bronxville, N.Y., the boldly dovetailed woodbox having two steel hinges, nine carved bas relief panels including serpents, birds, leaves, fruit, griffins, and more. NB: Wiliam Winthrop Kent studied under Henry Hobson Richardson and he designed the mosaic floors of the Ellicott Square Building of Buffalo N.Y., the materials which were imported from Italy and the floor consists of 23 million pieces of marble.
