Jeffrey S. Evans & Assoc., 9/26/15, lot 46.

Catalogue Note: The B & S catalogue illustrates an alabaster/clambroth example. It was referred to as a "French Ink" in the catalogue price list and wholesaled for $12 per dozen. As noted by Barlow and Kaiser, these inkstands are extremely rare. A sketch of what appears to be the same form is also included in the 1870 Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat, Paris, France trade catalogue, p. 227, fig. 3573. Barlow/Kaiser note the difference between the Sandwich and Baccarat examples as being the Sandwich inserts are pressed, while the Baccarat version features pressure-blown inserts, like the ones here.
